Stephen Curry Just Sent a Dire Message to Injured Teammate Klay Thompson
The ‘Splash Brothers’ reunion between Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry will have to wait until 2021.
Thompson, who has played for the Golden State Warriors since 2011, will miss the coming season with an Achilles injury. The five-time All-Star missed all of last season with a torn ACL.
The duo of Curry and Draymond Green will have to carry the Warriors in Thompson’s absence. Curry recently sent a dire message to Thompson, his longtime shooting partner and ‘Splash Brother.’

When the Golden State Warriors drafted Klay Thompson in 2011, the team already had a young Stephen Curry at point guard.
It took a bit before Curry — who battled ankle injuries earlier in his career — and Thompson clicked together. When that happened, and the ‘Splash Brothers’ were born, NBA teams rightfully quaked in their newest Jordan sneakers.
When the 2020 season ended, Curry’s 2,495 three-pointers ranked third all-time behind veteran sharp-shooter Ray Allen (2,973) and Indiana Pacers legend Reggie Miller (2,560).
Thompson is 18th with 1,798 made threes, and he did all of that damage from December 2011-June 2019.
Golden State has won three NBA championships in the Curry and Thompson era. The Warriors made another two NBA Finals and hope to reach at least one more before both hang up their sneakers.

Months after Klay Thompson tore his ACL in the NBA Finals, Stephen Curry wound up missing most of the 2019-20 season with a broken left hand.
Curry, now healthy, will be without his dear friend once again this season. Thompson tore his Achilles in November and is expected to miss the entire 2020-21 campaign.
An Achilles tendon injury is often career-altering in any sport. Kobe Bryant suffered that injury at 34 years old — Thompon turns 31 next February — but it was clear watching Bryant afterward that he wasn’t the same.
The Golden State Warriors will have to persevere without the five-time All-Star drilling threes. Andrew Wiggins is expected to start at shooting guard in Thompson’s absence.

Save taking over the all-time 3-pointer record, Stephen Curry has done everything imaginable in his career.
Still, the three-time champion will understandably miss Klay Thompson’s presence on the court. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Curry “broke down in tears” when he found out Thompson wouldn’t play this season.
On a phone call with Thompson, Curry gave his longtime teammate an important message.
“Be around the team as much as you can this season. We need you.”
Barring any sudden cancelations, the Golden State Warriors will open the 2020-21 season on Tuesday, December 22, against the Brooklyn Nets. It is the first time that Curry and his Warriors teammates will face Kevin Durant, who spent three years playing next to the ‘Splash Brothers.’
Golden State will play its first three games on the road before hosting Damian Lillard and the Trail Blazers on January 1.

Golden State Warriors: Stephen Curry flashing what’s to come
Stephen Curry is gearing up to shock the world and put the Golden State Warriors back on top of the throne.
Even though he struggled in his first preseason game, Steve Kerr said watching Stephen Curry return to the Golden State Warriors was a ‘sight for sore eyes’. After all, it had been nearly 300 days since the two-time MVP appeared in a game, and before that, he had missed more than half of the season with a hand injury.
While the ongoing pandemic and Klay Thompson’s torn Achilles is something to worry about – the Warriors can rest assured they have Curry back in the chamber and ready to lead the charge. With everyone counting them out, Curry is prepared to stun the league.
Curry’s preseason performances
Curry shot just 3-for-10 in his first game back against Denver. But, we’ll chalk that one up to rust – especially since he lit the Sacramento Kings ablaze in his next two games. He scored 58 points in 57 minutes while drilling 11-of-26 attempts from deep. The Warriors won both games, and Curry made a statement that he isn’t falling off any time soon.
One of the main concerns surrounding the Warriors this season is how will Curry respond to playing without Thompson? The second splash brother played a key role in supporting Curry on both ends of the floor. How would the Dubs ever replace this two-way production?
So far, Curry hasn’t missed a beat. This is mainly because of the additions of Kelly Oubre Jr. and Andrew Wiggins. The two versatile perimeter players are able to assist Curry in scoring, combining for over 40 points in their most recent game.
While Oubre and Wiggins will never be able to match the 3-and-D prowess of Thompson, they have shown that they are capable of doing just enough to keep the Warriors alive. Throw in Draymond Green and James Wiseman once the season starts and Curry should be just fine with his supporting cast.
Curry’s MVP hopes
Don’t get it twisted, Curry is focused on bigger goals than winning another individual award. However, dragging the Warriors to the top will likely push his name into the MVP discussion. How likely is it that Curry snags his third MVP this season?
Assuming he manages to stay healthy, we can expect Curry to put up incredible numbers this year. He is on pace to knock down 3-pointers at a historic rate and lead a band of underdogs to one of the top seeds in the West. It would be hard to argue against his case for MVP if he keeps the Warriors in title contention this season.

Other potential candidates include a young superstar Luka Doncic and the reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. If Curry wants to secure another piece of individual hardware, he will have to outplay both of those stars.
